Jacques Villon Etchings--1906-1907
This website includes work selected from the 353 etchings, lithographs and paintings on paper, by Jacques Villon, (1875-1963-French) in the collection of Jack Leissring. Villon, born Gaston Duchamp, was the premier 'painter-engraver' of the 20th Century, receiving all of the important French and European awards and honors. He was the eldest brother of Raymond Duchamp-Villon, the sculptor and of Marcel and Suzanne Duchamp, painters. On this page are found a series of etchings known as the "Minne" series (modeled by Renee, the daughter of a family friend), as well as an important work: "Lili" with a black boa for the Societe Normande de la Gravure. On the next page, the "Minne" series continues. Note that we have both very rare artist-proof versions and small edition versions of this important series.
